Window Cleaning

Window Cleaning Questions

How often should I have my windows cleaned?

For most domestic homes in Aberdeen, a monthly or bi-monthly clean is ideal. Aberdeen's coastal weather and frequent rainfall can leave mineral deposits and grime on windows quickly. Commercial and retail premises often benefit from a fortnightly clean to maintain a professional appearance. We are happy to recommend a schedule based on your property type and location.

What is a pure water fed pole system?

A pure water fed pole system uses water that has been filtered through a multi-stage purification process to remove all dissolved minerals and impurities. This ultra-pure water is fed through a telescopic pole to a soft brush head that gently scrubs your windows.

Because there are no minerals left in the water, it evaporates without leaving any spots or streaks. No detergents or chemicals are used, making it safer for your family, pets, plants, and the environment — and kinder to your window frames and paintwork.

Does rain clean my windows?

No — rain actually makes windows dirtier. Rainwater contains dissolved minerals and picks up airborne pollutants as it falls. When it lands on your windows and evaporates, it leaves behind a film of mineral deposits and grime. This is why windows often look worse after rain than before.

Professional cleaning with purified water removes this build-up completely, and the lack of residual minerals means your windows actually stay cleaner for longer after a professional clean than after rain.

Do you clean the frames and sills as well as the glass?

Yes. Our window cleaning service includes the glass, frames, sills, and doors as standard. We believe a thorough clean means the whole window, not just the glass. This is included in our standard pricing at no extra charge.

Do you need access to the inside of my property?

No. Our pure water fed pole system is operated entirely from ground level, so we do not need to enter your property or use ladders. This means you do not need to be home for us to carry out the clean, and there is no disruption to your day. We will simply let you know when the job is done.

Gutter Cleaning

Gutter Cleaning Questions

How often should gutters be cleaned?

In Aberdeenshire, we recommend having your gutters cleaned at least once a year — ideally in late autumn after leaves have fallen. Properties surrounded by trees may need cleaning twice a year (spring and autumn). Blocked gutters can cause serious water damage to your property's fascias, soffits, walls, and foundations, so regular maintenance is a worthwhile investment.

What happens if gutters are left blocked?

Blocked gutters cause water to overflow and run down the sides of your property. Over time this leads to:

  • Damp penetration in walls and ceilings
  • Damage to fascias, soffits, and paintwork
  • Erosion of pointing and brickwork
  • Damage to foundations and damp-proof courses
  • In severe cases, water ingress into the property itself

The cost of repairing damp damage far exceeds the cost of regular gutter cleaning. Prevention is always the better option.

How high can you clean gutters?

SRC Cleaning Services can safely clean gutters up to 5 metres in height using professional equipment. This covers the vast majority of domestic properties in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, including two-storey houses. For taller properties, please contact us to discuss your requirements.

How can I tell if my gutters are blocked?

Common signs of blocked gutters include:

  • Water overflowing over the sides of gutters during rain
  • Damp patches on exterior walls below the gutterline
  • Plants or moss growing in or around the gutters
  • Sagging or pulling-away gutters (caused by the weight of debris)
  • Staining on the fascia boards below the gutter

Solar Panel Cleaning

Solar Panel Cleaning Questions

Do dirty solar panels really affect energy output?

Yes, significantly. Studies have shown that dirty solar panels can lose between 15% and 25% of their energy output depending on the level of soiling. In Scotland, where sunlight hours are already limited compared to southern England, maximising the efficiency of your panels is especially important.

Bird droppings, moss, lichen, and general grime all reduce the amount of light reaching the photovoltaic cells. A professional clean can restore panels to near-peak performance.

How do you clean solar panels without damaging them?

We use a pure water fed pole system with a soft brush head specifically designed for solar panels. No chemicals, no abrasive materials, and no high-pressure water are used — all of which could damage the panel surface or void your warranty.

The soft brush gently removes soiling while the purified water rinses away all residue without leaving mineral deposits. The result is a spotless panel surface that maximises light absorption.

Will cleaning my solar panels void the warranty?

No — in fact, most solar panel manufacturers recommend regular professional cleaning as part of routine maintenance. Using the correct equipment (soft brush, purified water, no chemicals) is important. Our method is fully compliant with manufacturer guidelines.

We recommend checking your specific warranty documentation if you have any concerns, but our cleaning method is safe for all major panel brands.

How often should solar panels be cleaned in Scotland?

We recommend a professional clean once or twice a year for most residential installations in Aberdeenshire. The frequency depends on your location — properties near farmland, busy roads, or with significant bird activity may benefit from more frequent cleaning. A spring clean is particularly valuable to maximise output during the summer months when sunlight hours are at their peak.
